Marriage Proposals

Everyone loves a good proposal story. Along with the beautiful diamond the girl always wants to tell her amazing story of how be proposed.

My boyfriend's brother proposed in Disneyland on the Peter Pan Ride, because Tinekrbell and Peter Pan was their thing. he did it as they were flying over neverland. something she would remember forever and that meant more to her than anything.

I know most girls want something that romantic, but I would rather be caught offguard, which is probaly how it will happen for me. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 5 years (it'll be 5 years in April), and we talk about getting married and that it'll happen at some point, so I know that he will propose, but I just dont know when. People always say to me that I won't be surprised when he does it, but the thing is, is that I will be! I will be so caught off guard that it'll be amazing!

Until then, I have posted some proposals that were on The Knot.com. They arent jsut any proposals, they are the "Not-Quite-Perfect Marriage Proposals of 2009".

It Was a Gas
My fiance planned a trip to a ski resort in Pennsylvania, and had intended to ask me to marry him on a sleigh ride, but a heat wave had melted almost all the snow. He then decided he would just take me on a carriage ride, thinking it was going to be very romantic. NO! The horses started farting! And shedding! We had horsehair in our mouths and could smell farts the whole time. We finished the ride, and Jimmy wanted me to follow him to the edge of the mountain, but because of the rain, everything was muddy, so I said, "No, thanks, I'll stay over here!" He was so frustrated, he finally just plopped down on his knee right there in the mud and asked me to marry him!

The Houdini of Engagement Rings
Jordan and his family took me out for my birthday dinner at a restaurant that has live music. At one point, the bandleader said, "I hear there's a birthday in the house tonight! Why don't you come on up here!" Jordan went with me. After they played "Happy Birthday," he pulled a tiny ring box out of his pocket, knelt down on one knee, opened it, and...the ring was missing! Jordan's mother realized she had given him the wrong ring box from her big, overstuffed purse. A few of my friends quickly dumped the contents of her purse onto the table searching for the correct box. Eventually it was found, delivered to Jordan, and he was able to "correctly" propose!

Receipt Fail
My fiance had stopped to pick up the ring on his way home from work. Earlier that day, I had given him the credit card to get gas for his car, and when he got home, I asked him for the receipt so I could put it in our budget. But instead of giving me the gas station receipt, he gave me the ring receipt! I looked at it and smiled, then asked him for the "real" receipt. He just looked at me and said, "No, I didn't!" and we both laughed. He wasn't planning on proposing to me for a couple more days because he had a big, romantic day planned, but I told him that it didn't matter how it happened as long as I got him for the rest of my life!

Thwarted by a Bike
For the first two mornings of our vacation, Nick asked me to get up and take a walk before 8 a.m. -- not a good idea in my mind. Finally, I agreed to a morning bike ride to the beach, but the chain kept popping off my bike. Twenty minutes later, we got the chain back on, but we were covered in grease and it was in the 90s, so we were super-hot. I wanted to go home and shower, but Nick insisted we could get the grease off with salt water. Once we got down to the beach, he got down on one knee and proposed. Now the whole thing finally made sense to me!

Just the 2 of Us...and a Bear
We went to hike in the Pocono Mountains for a weekend. Eric decided that the short trail up the mountain was "too short," so we took the longer one. Hours later, in 95-degree heat and 100-percent humidity, I wasn't so into this hike anymore. We finally reached the top of the mountain, and just when Eric thought it was a good time to pop the question, we heard people behind us yell, "Bear! Here he comes!" And everyone ran to get away from this huge black bear. After the bear finally went away, Eric decided to continue with his plan and proposed. After the shock wore off, I said yes!

Too Close for Comfort
Two-and-a-half years after we started dating, Justin took me on an amazingly scenic stroll. At one point, he got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him. I said, "Of course! Yes!" And he took my hand and put on the ring. I leaned in to cuddle with my new fiance, and at the same time, he leaned in to kiss my forehead -- this created a collision that ended with Justin getting a bloody nose. Fortunately, we got the bleeding under control long enough to tell everyone we knew we were engaged!

Lost and Found
I decided to take my bride-to-be back to the beach where we'd shared our first kiss and propose to her during sunset. I had the ring on my necklace because I thought it would be easier to take off, but I was a little nervous as I kneeled down, and when I tried to take it off, the necklace snapped. The next thing I remember: holding a broken necklace with no ring. We searched the sand inch by inch until nightfall, and then I decided we needed a metal detector. I quickly went out and bought one while my fiancee marked the spot, and it took us less than three minutes to locate the ring. Ticket to the pier: $2. Metal detector: $70. The feeling after we found the ring: Priceless.

do you think yours was wrse? Or better than that?! Have a good story for me?! Leave me a post with your proposal story!!

Wedding Music: 8 Wedding Songs to Skip

I got this list from The Knot.com. (Which is a website that I LOVE!) I agree with their list so i had to share it. nobody wants to go to a wedding where they play the Chicken Dance, I mean come on, it is 2009.

1. "YMCA" -- Village People
Why to Skip It: The fact that everyone knows the words, everyone knows the dance, and that this song fits lots of occasions -- between innings at a baseball game, for instance -- does not automatically qualify it as a must at your wedding.

2. "Chicken Dance"
Why to Skip It: At a wedding, everyone's dressed to the nines and feeling festive. Is this really the best time to flap your arms like a chicken in front of that cute bridesmaid/groomsman/new spouse? Didn't think so.

3. "Stayin' Alive" -- Bee Gees
Why to Skip It: There aren't too many people who know more than one line and one dance move to this song -- leave "Stayin' Alive" to the Saturday Night Fever reruns.

4. "Every Breath You Take" -- The Police
Why to Skip It: The Police are legendary, but the tune is a little high school dance-ish, and the line "Every move you make…I'll be watching you" is a little stalker-ish.

5. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" -- Bonnie Tyler
Why to Skip It: This song is worth skipping if only to avoid any guest from reenacting the profanity-laced rendition made famous from Will Ferrell's wedding in Old School.

6. "Macarena" -- Los Del Rio
Why to Skip It: You may know how to do the dance -- but do you really want to? Besides, everyone has a few certain relatives they'd rather not see get down with that hip swivel move.

7. "My Heart Will Go On" -- Celine Dion
Why to Skip It: We're not passing judgment on Celine Dion, but Titanic propelled this song into the realm of romance cliche. Besides, remember that Leo died in the movie -- a bit tragic for a wedding.

8. "Mony Mony" -- Billy Idol
Why to Skip It: Not sure what Billy Idol is singing in this song? Most other people don't know, either, and when that's the case, a good 10 percent of sing-alongers will find a way to say something objectionable.

I know that one question I get from Brides and Grooms are about DJ's or Bands. They always ask me for a reference. the first question I ask them is if they want someone who is going to get the party going or do you want someone who is going to sit in the background and you wont even know that he is there. Music is a very important part of your wedding- so this is something you really need to think about.

There is nothing wrong with searching around for the right DJ or Band. You should find out if they are DJing or playing another event or venue to se if you can stop by and see how they are. Some companies or Bands have "Open Houses" where you can go and listen to them so you don't have to crash someone else's wedding or party!

Another thing that you can do- meet with your DJ the week before your wedding, tell him that kind of atmosphere you are looking for. and there is ceratinly nothing wrong with giving him a list of songs that you want played, or a list of songs you do not want played that night.

As I said before, the DJ can make or break your wedding, so make sure you have the perfect one for you and your wedding, and have him play some great songs!

Fenway Bridal Expo- September 27, 2009

Fenway Park held their first Bridal Expo and it was awesome. It did rain but it was definitely a successful event. At the expo, I met Heather and Eric and Jim and Alicia, who both couples are getting married at the hotel in 2010 :)

Here are some pictures of Vickie and myself at the Expo and our booth.

It's Been a While...

I got a tad busy over the past few months, so I am VERY behind on updating my blog. But I am here now, able to put up the pictures from the past few events and such. Now that I am all caught up with everything, I will be able to blog more!

I am also in the process of making my own interactive website, where you will be able to ask me questions and such and I will be able to respond right on here! I am VERY excited about it and will let you know how that process is going. One of my Grooms for next year will be helping me with that! Thanks Pat! :)

Check out the pictures and come back again for more!
I had a few weeks off until our next wedding which was August 15th. Jolly and Neil, such a cute couple! Jolly was in school in NY- so we emailed and talked on the phone a lot. They were our first wedding that had an outside caterer. There were a few items they took out of our wedding package to make it fit their needs with the food.

We met in advance to go over all of the details. They were planning on having a traditional Indian/Hindu wedding here at the hotel. They were having the ceremony and reception/dinner with us in our Belvidere Ballroom. The day started early for me!

The day was starting at 11:45 when Neil arrived at the hotel by horse and carriage! The room was already set up the night before, the decorators came in to set up the Mandap and the stage and the aisle for the ceremony. I arrived at 10:00AM to get a few small items done, put the programs on each chair, make sure that Jolly and her parents were all set, and that the room was perfect.

They were having their ceremony, a lunch for their guests and then starting their cocktail reception a bit later to give everyone some time to digest and get ready for the night!

The Time line of the day was:
11:45 Grooms Arrival on Dalton St
12:45 everyone to be seated in the Ballroom
1:00 Ceremony starts
2:10 Ceremony ends- bride and groom walk outside to the horse and carriage

2:30 Lunch starts in Maverick A&B
6:00 Cocktail Reception in West/PreAssembly
7:00 Doors Open 7:10 Introductions 7:15 Neil will give a speech
7:20 Bride and Groom first dance
7:30 Cake Cutting
7:40 Toast
7:50 Dinner
9:00ish Neils Dad will speak
9:05 Jollys dad will speak
9:10 Father/Daughter Dance
9:15 Mother/Son Dance
10:30 Bar Closes
11:00 Dinner and Dancing has come to an end

It was very interesting, since it was my first Indian/Hindu wedding. The caterer was great! Awesome to work with. So was the decorator. But the night went smoothly. A HUGE success.
Below are some pictures from the day.
